Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about sovereign local storage, AES encryption, and offline execution.

How does AES 256 client side encryption work?

When you set an optional passphrase before exporting a manuscript, Evantics uses the Web Cryptography API directly inside your browser. It derives a key using PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations and encrypts your draft with AES GCM 256 bit. We never transmit your passphrase over the internet.

Where are my unencrypted manuscripts saved?

Your drafts are stored exclusively inside your browser local database. Evantics utilizes a custom high capacity engine called EvanticsVault to bypass standard 5MB browser limits. This allows you to safely store hundreds of megabytes of text entirely offline. We operate with absolutely no backend databases or cloud servers.

What happens if I clear my browser history or site data?

Clearing your browser site data or local storage will permanently erase unexported active drafts from your browser memory. To prevent data loss, please always export your work or create a JSON backup via the Vault Manager before purging your browser cache.

Why do I see a warning banner on Apple iOS Safari?

Apple enforces a strict policy for offline web applications. If you do not open the site for 7 days, iOS Safari will automatically and silently delete all of your offline storage to save space. If you write on an iPhone or iPad, you must export your manuscripts regularly to avoid losing your work.

Is my work protected from AI scraping and malware?

Yes it is. Evantics employs a strict Content Security Policy and enterprise grade DOMPurify sanitization to scrub hidden tracking pixels and XSS payloads from pasted text. Furthermore, the platform explicitly enforces zero AI scraping protocols via strict text directives. Your work remains yours.

What is a .hmarx file?

This file is our native open format document container. It packages your manuscript chapter data, formatting tags, and metadata into a single portable file that can be read by the Immersive Reader or imported back into the studio.
